I have only used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for my graphic design, but tomorrow I’ll have a job interview at a company that wants me to use CorelDraw, I’m not familiar with that software at all, but I decided to take a chance and see if I can work with that software as well as I do with the Adobe programs that I’ve been using, so did I make a good decision? how similar are them?

  1. CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator are made by different vendors. I haven’t used either, so I wouldn’t be able to answer the other part of your question.

  2. The graphic artists in my company all face the same dilemma as you…they exclusively use CorelDraw (maybe you’ve got an interview at my company? lol).

The programs have the same functionality…but things are called differently (filter = lens, etc), shortcuts are different, and so on.

Its going to take some time to learn, but then every new hiree is usually familiar with illustrator only and must undergo the same learning curve.

Once you you use it a lot, you’ll get used to it just like you are to illustrator. Just hang in there, The illustration program should not influence your decision – you’ll adapt. Pick the job on how interesting the work looks.
