Hi guys, as a Graphic Designer I have to very often deal with files created in Photoshop in many projects. For the purpose there are many files I have to save on my pen drives for further use or to show the clients. But the problems comes when I have to show these files to clients and found that there is no Photoshop in the clients pc (though I know I can save these files in JPG format or in any other image formats easily operational, but in hurry many times I forgets this option.) Now what to do? Downloading and installing Photoshop to client PC will take a long time… so what are the alternatives.
In this case today in this post we will discuss some small size applications, easy to download and handle.
Paint.NET: The first application in the list is Paint.net and below is the screen shot which on first look, looks similar to the Photoshop but is very easy to handle and consumes less memory.
Though this is a wonderful image editor but by am sorry to say that by default it cannot edit the .PSD files directly but with the help of plug-in it will then able to open and edit the .PSD (Photoshop) files.
• First download and install Paint.NET
• Now download the psdplugin, unzip and copy the PhotoShop.dll to the “FileTypes” folder in the Paint.NET directory. By default it should be in C:Program FilesPaint.NETFileTypes.
Only you need to just follow the above steps, and finally you will be able to open Photoshop being installed.
Next application in the row is IrfanView which is also one of the popular image viewer and editor you can download it from the link here. With IrfanView you won’t need any third party plugin.
And the last one in the row is GIMP standing for GNU Image Manipulation Program is a free image retouching tool that supports .PSD files by default. You can download it from the link here.
According to its authors GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.
GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.
