Hi! Today I am back with a new tip of Indesign Corner Option to an object. Today in this tip you will learn How you can convert a rectangle square or any polygons corners round to have an special effect.

So to make corners round of an rectangle follow the steps given below:

  1. First of all create a new document (Ctrl + N) or through File > new or you can also open an existing document into which you have to create a round corner to an object.
  2. Create a rectangle using the rectangle tool located in the tool box.
Rectangle Tool location in tool bar
Rectangle Tool location in tool bar
  3. Once you have created the rectangle box of the desired size click on Object > Corner Options… keeping the created rectangle selected.
(Note: While creating a rectangle if you use shift key and mouse drag then the rectangle you create will be in perfect square or else if you use alt key and drag the mouse then the resulting rectangle will increase in all size… Explore it yourself…One more tip if you find the created rectangle have no outline then you can simple press the D key on the keyboard and let the created object have the default properties applied i.e. black outline with 1 or .5 points)

Now come back to topic on Rounded Rectangle… so you have clicked on the corner options… you will find the following option…  This one of for CS5 and CS6

Now notice the above image there you will notice the four corners provided that you can use to modify the corners as per the needs. For the above option you can modify the four corners at once or one by one… to have all the four corners same effect you have to lock the center button marked in red  or to do it separately just unlock the center button.

Also notice the droop down in which you will find the round corner option along with several option … all of them applies the different effect.

  4. So the step no. 3 you have just learned was for Indesign CS6 but in case if you have the lower version say Indesign CS3 then you can use the tip given below:

Click on the Object > Corner option to have the above option, now click on the drop down menu and select the rounded and in the next option size put the required number and click on OK. Here notice you should check the Preview box to have a preview before you click OK. In Indesign CS3 you will not have the option to make corners one by one… but using the option above all the corners will become rounded at once.

However, in Indesign CS3 there is way to make only a single corner or any selected corner round but that is using the script panel which I will tell you in the next post… because this post is becoming too lengthy…

Update; Here at this link I have posted the article how you can use Script to create a rounded rectangle…
